I'm nobody special - why should I write my life story or have it written for me?

Everyone has a story to tell.  You don’t have to be a president or a movie star to have a life story.  Anyone who has lived in the last century has seen unprecedented changes.  Your children and grandchildren (and those who follow) are interested in your stories.  What was life like when you were a child?

Do you have a shoebox full of your letters?  Those letters used to be the treasured keepsakes that told of our parents’ struggles, victories, passions and life lessons.   In today’s transient culture, families are scattered around the world and opportunities to share family stories are limited, but ever since telecommunications became affordable, people stopped writing letters.  Our children will no longer find the shoebox of letters after we are gone.  That is why it is so important to preserve our memories in something tangible.

What does it cost?

Each project is unique, and there are many variables to consider:

  • Do you want a complete life story or memories of a special period in your life, such as career, military service or travel?

  • How many photographs or other memorabilia do you wish to include?

  • How many hours will it take to capture your unique tale?  (On average, it takes eight hours to record a life story.)

  • What type of binding do you want?  How many copies of the book will be printed?

We make every effort to work within your family’s budget to provide you with a story that is sure to become a family treasure.  Contact us and we’ll be happy to arrange a free, no-obligation consultation.

How long will it take to produce my memory book?

A full life story typically takes 3 – 4 months to produce.  If you wish to present the book on a special occasion (Christmas, anniversary, family reunion, etc.) it is wise to book our services at least 4 months in advance.  Smaller books, such as Milestone books, can be produced in a few weeks, once all materials have been collected.

My mother doesn't live in the area.  How would you get her life story?

We are willing to travel to her location, and would conduct the interviews over two or three days, depending on her schedule.  Once the interviews are completed, manuscript drafts and galley proofs are exchanged via courier.

Do I have a choice of binding for my book?

Absolutely.  You can choose any type of binding to suit your taste and budget.

  • Soft cover book, perfect-bound

  • Linen or leather bound book

  • Exquisite, hand-crafted book made with beautiful Asian papers

All books are printed on acid-free paper with archival-quality inks.

Is there a minimum number of books I have to order?

You decide how many books you want and how many will fit your budget:  a single copy or dozens.  This decision will be made just before the books go to print – after you approve the final galley proofs.

Do I have to be a good writer to take a workshop?

No.  People enter at their own skill level, with their own ambitions for how much they will do.  The classes encourage and instruct, but do not overwhelm those who may be doing this kind of work for the first time.

Are gift certificates available?

Certainly.  We produce an attractive gift certificate for any of our services.
